Meet #TeamGrit member Nic! Nic is a badass CrossFittter who recently joined The Grit Collective to learn how to incorporate flexible dieting into her regime as well as improve her body composition and performance. She's one of the most focused women I know and it's been a blast watching her hit multiple PRs and master the world of macros.
What would you tell someone who is starting their first week with The Grit Collective?
I would let them know to plan out their days ahead of time and enter them into My Fitness Pal. This way, they know they can hit their macros. I had to play with it a lot in the beginning to figure out how much of everything I could eat. Not planning ahead and just grabbing food wouldn't have allowed me to hit them.
How do you prefer to workout?
Crossfit and Running
What is your favorite aspect of The Grit Collective?
I love that it is flexible. I was very strict before and if I ever cheated, I'd feel nonstop guilt as I was eating as well as for many days after. Now I can have a glass of wine or some ice-cream if it fits in my macros and not feel like I ruined all my progress or hard work in the gym.
How has TGC changed your attitude/ ideas/feeling around food?
I have a much healthier approach. Before if I slipped on my diet one day, I'd have the typical reaction I know a lot of people do and I'd feel guilty and think because I already ruined my diet for the day, I was done. I didn't care if I cheated the rest of the day because my day was already ruined, which is never a good approach. I still eat almost all paleo and clean foods, but because I can fit other things in my macros, I'm much more consistent and healthy with my thinking and eating. I don't feel deprived. If I want ice-cream one day, I make sure it fits, eat it, don't feel guilty and go right back to my healthy foods.
How has TGC impacted your training?
I've become stronger and have much more energy. I've always wanted to get strict pull-ups and now I have them and can do them in WODs. I've had so many PRs and I've been able to RX many CrossFit workouts that I wasn't even close to RXing before like Grace and Cindy.
What is your go-to meal?
Ground turkey in an Ezekiel Wrap with any green veggie
What macro strategy has helped you the most?
What’s the biggest change you’ve noticed( body, mind, gym or other)?
I think they way I look. My weight loss wasn't significant but looking back at pictures I can''t believe the difference I see especially since I have eaten clean and done CrossFit all along.
What has been you biggest/ favorite win overall?
I don't associate food with guilt anymore.
